Braided lines are used in spinning fishing when you want direct contact with the bait and a clear feeling when casting and counter-attacking. Unlike traditional lines, braided lines are not elastic, which means that the slightest movement in the bait or attack is felt directly in the rod. This makes braided lines popular when actively fishing with drag, jigs and lures.
The choice of braided line affects the entire equipment. The dimension, breaking strength and construction should be matched to the rod, reel and bait. A line that is too thick can affect the casting length and the movement of the bait, while a line that is too thin can give a worse margin under heavy load. The right balance is therefore important.
Brand
The choice of dimension depends on the species you are fishing for and how the equipment is constructed.
Braided line is often chosen according to the species and fishing method. Here are general guidelines:
| Fishing | Dimension |
|---|---|
| Light pike fishing | 0.20 - 0.40 mm |
| Heavy pike fishing | 0.30 - 0.50 mm |
| Perch | 0.10 - 0.15 mm |
| Sea trout | 0.12 - 0.18 mm |
| Rainbow, trout, char and grayling | 0.12 - 0.16 mm |
However, these are guidelines. Factors such as the weight of the bait, the casting weight of the rod and the capacity of the reel also play a role.
The braided line should always be adapted to the casting weight of the rod and the size of the reel. A light rod for perch fishing works best with thinner dimensions, while a powerful pike rod requires thicker line.
A line that is too thick on a small reel can impair casting distance and provide poor line lay. At the same time, the line must be able to withstand the load that occurs when trolling. The whole is more important than just looking at millimeters.
Braided lines are not elastic, which provides clear contact with the bait. This means that you feel bottom contact, vegetation and careful bites better than with more stretchy alternatives.
The thin diameter in relation to the strength also means that you can use strong line without increasing the dimension too much. It affects the casting distance and how the bait moves in the water.
Braided lines come in different colors. Some prefer clear colors to make it easier to see the movement of the line, while others choose more discreet variants. Regardless of the color, leaders are often used in preference to line, especially when fishing for species with sharp teeth or in clear water.
Braided lines are a common choice in spinning fishing when direct contact and control are important. With the right dimension and matching, the equipment is balanced and works as it should in practice.
