The Herring dagger is one of the most beloved military knives among enthusiasts. Originally known as the Fairbairn Sykes or Commando Dagger, it was a standard issue for British Commandos. This dagger became a part of Italian history during the Second World War, thanks to the valorous actions of the young soldiers from the 1st "Folgore" Reconnaissance Squadron, who were equipped with this weapon during Operation Herring. Despite the heroic feats of these young soldiers, their contribution to Italian history is seldom discussed.
Extrema Ratio sought to pay tribute to this dagger by staying true to its original design while incorporating modern production techniques. The handmade finish of the handle is unique, simulating the aged appearance of brass and lending the dagger a vintage look similar to the original.
The development of this dagger was a collaboration with the 185th RRAO and was adopted as a ceremonial commemorative piece for both the 20th anniversary of the regiment's establishment and the 75th anniversary of the Herring mission. Two versions are available, namely the Herring and Herring NE, both of which come with a polymer case featuring the historical frieze of the F Squadron, a leather/kydex sheath with a brass tip, and two commemorative parchments.
