Leatherman started with a simple idea - to create a multi-tool built around pliers. While traveling through Europe in 1975, Tim Leatherman repeatedly encountered problems that a regular knife was not enough to solve. Leaking pipes, a malfunctioning car and everyday chores made him think about what a truly versatile tool could look like. When he returned home to the United States, he set about developing his idea, and after several years of prototyping and rejections from companies, he finally managed to get his first order in 1983.
The first tool, the Pocket Survival Tool (PST), was the starting point for a whole new category of equipment. With features adapted for both everyday and demanding tasks, Leatherman quickly became a name to be reckoned with. Today, the multi-tools are still manufactured in Portland, Oregon, where innovation and quality are at the heart of everything. Whether it's construction work, outdoor activities or tactical missions, there's a model to suit.
