Tasmanian Tiger began with backpacks and vests for military use and has since expanded its product range step by step. Today, the brand offers equipment for everyone from soldiers and police officers to medical personnel in the field. A common feature of all their products is that they are built for long-term wear and rigorous use.
From a German trade fair to a supplier for armed forces
Tasmanian Tiger was registered as a brand in Germany in 1999 and made its debut that same year at the IWA trade fair in Nuremberg. Two years later, the brand was registered globally. Since then, Tasmanian Tiger has, among other things, supplied medical backpacks to the German Bundeswehr.
The name is derived from the thylacine – also known as the Tasmanian tiger. This animal was renowned for its endurance, strength, and striped coat, which served as camouflage – qualities that the brand aims to embody in its products.
In-house factories and controlled manufacturing
All products, from prototype to mass production, are manufactured in the company’s own factories in Vietnam. The first factory was built in 1989 in accordance with European production standards. Since 2011, the factories have been certified under the SA8000 social standard, which mandates fair working conditions. Every product is inspected before it leaves the factory.
Tasmanian Tiger backpacks
Backpacks are the core of the brand, and the range includes everything from smaller packs for short-term missions to larger packs for extended time in the field. The carrying systems are designed to transfer weight to the hips, relieving strain on the shoulders and back. Most models can be adjusted to fit your specific back length. Accessories such as rain covers and side pockets are also available for the backpacks.
Plate carriers, vests, and pouches
Vests have been part of the product range from the very beginning, and the brand’s first plate carrier was introduced in 2011. Today, the range includes plate carriers, chest rigs, and tactical vests, as well as pouches for magazines, radios, and documents. Many of the products are modular, allowing you to configure your gear to suit your specific needs.
Medical Equipment
The first medical backpack was introduced in 2002, and medical gear has since become a dedicated product category for the brand. The lineup includes larger medical backpacks for carrying supplies for a team, as well as smaller pouches and accessories—such as holders for tourniquets and shears. The brand has also supplied medical equipment to the German Bundeswehr.
IRR Equipment
Since 2020, several products have been available in an IRR (Infrared Reflective) version, developed by Tasmanian Tiger to provide camouflage in low-light conditions. This specification applies to everything from backpacks and vests to belts, magazine pouches, and medical gear. In total, there are over a hundred products available in the IRR version.
