The baton can be opened with a moderate flick of the wrist or by pulling on the tip. To close it, press the release button on the underside of the handle and push the telescopic rods together. The rubber-coated handle and the sliding rings at the joints between the different sections help absorb impact energy.

The sliding rings enable quiet opening and closing of the baton (no metallic scraping noises or rattling) and prevent a bounce-back effect.
