This mail coif is made from intimidating butted armor, which has been blackened for moisture resistance. Reminiscent of the Black Prince, who purposefully let his mail darken to a blackish hue. Faithfully copied from examples in museums and private collections, it can be worn with or without a helmet.

Made with 16 gauge links in the International Pattern, 4 links through a 5th, a style common to all European mail. The outer link diameter of each link is about 11.11 mm with the inner link diameter at about 9.52 mm. This coif can be worn with or without a helmet.
